THE 21ST CENTURY CARMEN
After more than a hundred years since the piece premièred, our idea is to free it from its clichés and common place interpretations to delve into the essence of the story and shine a new light on one of the most multifaceted characters in contemporary fiction: Carmen.

To achieve this, we need an update – we want to recreate a timeless context unburdened by traditional concepts to ensure no boundaries stand between the audience and the main character; and we need a new version, because a story that is over a century old warrants a new perspective, free from inhibitions, but ever true to the essence of the piece. It was with these ideas in mind that we created the scenography and costumes, which are at once modern and timeless.
